AJ Perez' Maalaala Mo Kaya episode, his last, airs tonight

AJ Perez, the young ABS-CBN actor who figured in a vehicular accident that led to his untimely demise, will star in his last acting role tonight, April 30, in the ABS-CBN drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya. The tragic accident happened on the actor's way home from the Kapamilya Karavan at the Bangus Festival held at Dagupan City last April 17. The actor was pronounced dead in a hospital in Paniqui, Tarlac. He was only 18 years old.



The episode tonight is expected to break TV ratings as his early death, at the prime of his career, gripped the nation's attention. The late young actor will be playing opposite Bugoy Carino and the two will be breathing life to two poor brothers as they make their way home to Samar from the big city and where both developed a deeper love for each other in the process.

Catch Maalaala Mo Kaya tonight on the Kapamilya channel, ABS-CBN, at 7:15 PM.

Jericho Rosales goes Hollywood

Philippine matinee idol and seasoned thespian Jericho Rosales is all set to debut his acting chops in Hollywood as he lead stars in the movie "Subject I Love You" that will debut in the Newport Beach Film Festival, an annual film fest held in Orange County, California and one that will run today, April 28, through May 5.

Jericho plays a computer whiz smitten by a girl who created a computer virus to catch the latter's attention, much like the Love Bug although a work of fiction. Jericho is looking for distributorship for this film and to hopefully break into Hollywood. 350 films from 40 countries take part in this annual showcase of the best in movies.

Actor AJ Perez, 18, finally laid to rest

Young actor AJ Perez, who figured in a vehicular accident and met his untimely demise at a tender young age of 18 years old, was finally laid to rest at the Manila Memorial Park in Paranaque City earlier today. Prior to his remains being brought to the memorial park, a mass was held at The Christ The Kind Parish in Quezon City around nine in the morning.

The tragic accident happened on the actor's way home from the Kapamilya Karavan at the Bangus Festival held at Dagupan City on April 17. The actor was pronounced dead in a hospital in Paniqui, Tarlac.

The actor was recently seen as one of the main casts in the pre-primetime ABS-CBN program Sabel as Candido Sandoval.

Indie film "Busong" makes it to Cannes

Philippine indie film "Busong" will be showcased as one of the 21 feature films at the Director's Fornight at the Cannes. The inclusion of the film was announced yesterday and it is from independent filmmaker Auraeus Solito.

"Busong," karma in a local dialect, was shot in Palawan and stars Alessandra de Rossi as Punay who is born with wounds on her feet that she cannot step on the earth. The story revolves around the search of Punay and his brother Angkarang, who carries the former in a hammock, for a healer and in the process meets different people along the way: a woman looking for her husband, a fisherman who lost his boat, and a young man who is searching for himself.

Auraeus Solito also helmed international film festival favorite "And Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros," his first and one that brought him 15 international awards.

Phil. Senator call it quits with wife of 10 years, says showbiz insider

Philippine senator Chiz Escudero reportedly called it quits with wife of 10 years Christine Elizabeth "Tintin" Flores. This is according to showbiz insider and writer Ricky Lo of the national broadsheet Philippine Star.

The write-up on his "Fanfare" column said that the couple has "drifted apart" as relayed by a very reliable source. No third party is involved accordingly.

The senator ran for the presidential elections in 2010 but withdrew his candidacy. His marriage to Ms. Flores was rumored to be on the rocks two years prior but the couple has kept mum on the issue, even appearing together on commercial advertisements on TV as a "happy" couple.

OPM artists sing to men in uniform

Original Pilipino Music (OPM) artists will be giving free concerts to the men of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to boost their morale after a series of scandals on the alleged misuse and abuse of funds by certain officials rocked the AFP.

The undertaking is spearheaded by Ogie Alcasid, president of the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM). Noel Cabangon, Cookie Chua and Mitch Valdes will also join Mr. Alcasid as they stage a concert at Camp Aguinaldo, the AFP headquarters, on April 27.

Blind singer Fatima Soriano gets new corneas from late AJ Perez

Blind singer Fatima Soriano will have new corneas donated by the family of the late AJ Perez. This was announced by Mr. and Ms. Gerardo and Margarita Perez, bereaved parents of the 18-year-old actor who figured in an accident yesterda, April 17. The actor was pronounced dead on arrival.

The family of AJ Perez has decided to donate his cornea to 17-year-old inspirational blind singer Fatima Soriano.

“Thankful kami sa family ni AJ kasi una nilang napili si Fatima (We are thankful to the family of AJ as they first chose Fatima),” said Fely Soriano, the mother of Fatima.

The young actor was recently seen on the pre-primetime ABS-CBN program Sabel as one of the lead actors Candido Sandoval.

Charice back on Glee's A Night of Neglect

Philippine international singing and YouTube sensation Charice Pempengco will once again grace the highly popular American TV series "Glee" in the show's 17th episode called "A Night of Neglect" airing on April 19 on the Fox network.

Charice will be reprising her role as Sunshine Corazon, a Filipina-exchange student that became a threat to lead glee front Rachel Berry (Lea Michelle) when she auditioned for McKinley High School's New Directions but the former changed heart and joined Vocal Adrenaline.

Charice is set to perform a Celine Dion classic, "All By Myself," and which will be released as a digital single on iTunes.

Mara Clara nominated for 2011 BANFF World Media Awards

Popular Philippine primetime program Mara Clara, a remake of the classic ABS-CBN soap opera of the same name that started airing in 1992 and made superstardom status out of Judy Ann Santos and Gladys Reyes, bagged a nomination at the 2011 BANFF World Media Awards, also known as the Rockies, under the Fiction category (Soap Operas and Telenovelas).

The current program, currently playing on ABS-CBN's weeknight lineup and topping ratings from AGB Nielsen and Kantar Media-TNS, stars rising superstars Kathryn Bernardo as Mara, previously played by Judy Ann Santos, and Julia Montes, portraying Gladys Reyes.

Other international soaps nominated are Bread, Love and Dream from South Korea (aka The Baker King seen nightly on GMA), Coronation Street (UK), Days of Our Lives (USA), Eva Luna (USA), and The Queen of the South (USA).

The 2011 BANFF World Media Awards will announce its winners on June 12, 2011 at the AOL Canada Theatre.

Philippine Actress Pilar Pilapil Stabbed

Philippine actress and former Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Pilar Pilapil was stabbed by alleged carjackers in the city of Marikina last Thursday night.

The carjacking incident alleged happened at Riverbanks Center in Marikina. Ms. Pilapil was with a friend, identified as Rosel Rosalem, when two armed med forced themselves into the Kia automobile Ms. Pilapil and her companion was in. Ms. Pilapil received multiple stab wounds and was later dropped off by the unidentified men in Pinagminahan Road in Antipolo City. Ms. Pilapil was able to seek help around 11:20 according to police reports.

Ms. Pilapil is currently recuperating, however Ms. Rosalem and the vehicle are yet to be found.

Willie Revillame and his show Willing Willie will be off air for two weeks

Controversial TV personality Willie Revillame is reported to go on a two-week hiatus following the alleged on-air child abuse of a six-year old Jan Jan Suan on a March 12, 2011 episode of his primetime show Willing Willie aired on the Kapatid network TV5. Jan Jan Suan was made to dance like a macho dancer while obviously distraught and in tears while everyone laughed, cheered and jeered on him. The scandal led to several advertisers pulling out of the show and calls from several concerned citizens, celebrities included, and government agencies to sanction/impose on its host and the program changes to protect the civil liberties of children.

Starting tomorrow, pretaped Willing Willie episodes will be aired by the Kapatid network.

Charice to star in Hollywood movie "Here Comes the Boom"?

Rumor mill has it that Filipina international singing and Youtube sensation Charice Pempengco will star alongside Salma Hayek (Frida, Bandidas), Kevin James (Hitch), and Joe Rogan (TV's Just Shoot Me) in a film to be directed by Frank Coraci (The Wedding Singer). The film is rumored to be "Here Comes the Boom" and Charice is purported to play the character Malia in a film where a physics teacher "desperate to save jobs and programs at his fiscally challenged high school, begins moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter" according to IMDb.

The film is expected to be released sometime June of 2012.
